Crispim was a fisherman who lived in the place where the waters of the river parnaiba if find with

Irritado, ao perceber que em casa nada havia para comer, matou a mãe com uma ossada de boi; antes de morrer, a velha amaldiçoou Crispim condenando-o a viver como monstro da cabeça grande. Desesperado, Crispim se jogou nas águas do rio Parnaíba e só se desencantará quando ele manter relaçoes sexuais com sete Marias virgens. Daí por diante, sempre dizem que aparece nas enchentes dos rios, virando canoas, assustando lavadeiras em sua busca frenética pelo descanso eterno, com a tentativa de cumprir a sina de manter relações sexuais com sete Marias virgens.
